Preserving Evidence of My Personal Injury Claim

Often, clients come to us long after the actual injury-causing event. For instance, they come to us after they are finished with medical treatment for injuries related to a car accident. By that time some important evidence could have gone missing.

If you’ve just been involved in an accident, it’s important to remember that the following information will be helpful in settling your claim in the future. Please save everything related to your case, and bring it in when you are ready to speak with an attorney.

Items to save include:

  • The police report
  • The DMV report
  • Transcripts of any recorded statements you have given to insurance companies
  • Letters that give an insurance adjuster’s name and contact information, as well as claim numbers
  • Photos you or your insurance company have taken
  • Vehicle repair estimates and bills
  • Photos of your injuries, if they are visible injuries
  • Journals or notes you have taken since the accident, about the impact or about your injuries
  • Records of lost wages from your employer
  • Any doctors note that authorized you to be off work for a period of time
  • The names and contact information of any witnesses
  • Medical records that are related to the injuries from the accident
  • Medical bills that are related to the injuries from the accident

Saving as much as possible of the above information and having it available to give to your attorney will save costs and time, allowing you to recover more for your injuries in the end!
